Hearing Aids

Do you have a Hearing Problem ?
Do you experience the following problems?

You have difficulty hearing conversation, or people sound like they are mumbling?

You miss parts of the conversation and have to ask others what was said?

Are problems are often worse in background noise, such as clubs or social groups?

You find that friends and family have to repeat speech, and this causes some frustration to yourself and them?

You sometimes have difficulty hearing on the mobile or landline phone?

You do not always hear other speakers clearly if they turn and walk away, or are some distance away from you, or they are in another room or part of the house?

You sometimes miss the details of announcements, or find difficulty hearing everything said by a speaker at a meeting (e.g. church, clubs, sporting events etc)?

You find it ALOT more difficult hearing conversation clearly in BACKGROUND NOISE, such as in clubs, restaurants, shopping centres, traffic, cars, parties or outdoors?

You find difficulties hearing dialogue on television, and need to turn up the TV volume (possibly annoying other listeners) ?

You find the voices on television and movies less clear, even when volume is louder?

You have to ask others what was said in movies and TV programs, or cinemas and theatres, and this is worse if there is background noise (or music) in the program?

You often find speech unclear, even if it is loud enough to hear?

You can hear speech but cannot always understand what is spoken?

You tend to avoid some social situations and activities because you can’t participate fully in the conversation?

You experience “ringing in the ears” or tinnitus?

You have previously been exposed to loud noise? (e.g. at work)

If you experience any of these problems, then you need to have your hearing tested!

Hearing loss often happens gradually over a long period of time.

You may not notice that your hearing is deteriorating because it has been a while since you heard the softer sounds, such as whispering, birds singing, or the refrigerator humming. You may have forgotten what some of these sounds are like, as they may have “faded” from your listening experience.

WHAT ELSE CAN HEARING AIDS OFFER ?

All hearing aids are now fully digital, eliminating many problems and hassles traditionally associated with hearing aid use. Hearing aids are now VERY easy to use. Many have fully automatic operation, requiring no changing or “fiddling” with controls and buttons. Remote Controls and Re-Chargeable batteries are also available for some devices.
Elimination of feedback or “whistling” is a major advance in recent times. Many devices now have advanced Background Noise Control features, to make listening in noise or groups easier and more comfortable than ever before. Advanced technology hearing aids (and many mid-range devices) can track several noise sources in different directions and
soften or control annoying sharp or sudden noises, even in very difficult and challenging environments.

COULD HEARING AIDS HELP YOU ?

Did you think that all hearing aids would be large, bulky, unappealing and ugly, like the ones your parents or grandparents may have worn? Did you think that all hearing aids would be a hassle to use?

Be prepared to change your thinking about hearing aids……
A NEW GENERATION OF HEARING AIDS

Many hearing aids are now incredibly small and discreet, and some are almost invisible.
They are very comfortable, with many new styles now using Slim-Tube fittings and small earbuds or domes (not the traditional large and bulky earmoulds), or small custom-made “Micro” Moulds.

Many people with a hearing loss do not seek a solution, preferring to live with the inconvenience (and stress) of hearing problems. Often it is difficult for them to hear in noisy environments, in groups and gatherings, or when other speakers turn and walk away. Hearing problems can occur when listening to television, at meetings, or on the telephone or mobile phone. Several hearing devices and wireless accessories can now help in these difficult listening situations.
HEARING PLUS RIVERWOOD CAN HELP YOU FIND A SOLUTION !

The first step is to book a hearing assessment with our audiologist. If you have a hearing loss (even a mild loss) there is a large range of suitable hearing aids available. Our
audiologist can recommend a suitable device to help with your individual lifestyle and communication needs.

The next step is to trial hearing aids. You are welcome to trial some hearing aids in our clinic at the same time as your hearing test. We have a range of different hearing aids, from basic models to mid-range and very advanced technology, that can be trialled in-clinic.

Many hearing aids are now made in “Micro” styles (very lightweight and discreet), that sit behind your ear, or inside the ear canal, and are often hardly noticeable. The very slim tubes and earbuds (or domes that fit in the ear canal) offer an attractive cosmetic solution for those people who prefer the least visible hearing aids. Even people with a severe hearing loss are often able to wear a “Micro” style hearing aid, thanks to new and incredibly advanced fully-digital technology.
HEARING AIDS CAN ALSO HELP WITH TINNITUS

Many people suffer from tinnitus, or “ringing in the ears”. This is a very common condition and is often accompanied by a hearing loss. If you have been exposed to loud noise in the past, or have a hereditary or age-related hearing loss, you may have a high-frequency hearing loss and tinnitus.

Hearing aids can often overcome, minimise, or even eliminate tinnitus for many people.
This is a simpler and often more cost-effective solution than other tinnitus therapies, and can often provide instant relief from tinnitus. Many hearing aid wearers are often amazed at how their tinnitus is no longer noticeable. This easy solution can often help with the strain and fatigue of having to continually concentrate in order to hear other speakers (especially in noise and groups), reducing the annoyance of constant tinnitus that can affect your enjoyment and quality of life.
